THE OTHER TREATIES
Four other treaties were made with the countries that had helped Germany during WWI, with the Treaty of Versailles as a template for these treaties, drawn up by officials (not the Big Three) and which simply followed the principles of the Treaty of Versailles:
1. The defeated countries had to disarm
2. They had to pay reparations
3. They lost land
4. New countries were formed
THE TERMS OF THE TREATIES
The main provisions of each treaty, showing (a) the terms of disarmament, (b) amount of reparation, (c) land lost, and (d) the new countries formed.
1. Germany Treaty of Versailles (28 June 1919):
a) 100000 soldiers, six battleships, no airforce
b) 132 billion gold marks to be paid in reparations
c) Posen, Polish Corridor, Alsace-Lorraine, all of Germany's colonies
d) Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania
.: The Dawes and Young Plans re-scheduled Germany's payments
2. Austria Treaty of Saint Germain (10 September 1919)
a) 30000 volunteers, no navy
b) reparations agreed, but never set
c) the Austro-Hungarian empire was dismantled and Tyrol was lost to Italy
d) Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Romania
.: went bankrupt before the amount of reparations could be set
3. Hungary Treaty of Trianon (4 June 1920)
a) 35000 volunteers, three patrol boats
b) 200 million gold crowns
c) the Austro-Hungarian empire was dismantled
d) Poland, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, Romania
.: unable to pay the reparations, so its payments were suspended
4. Bulgaria Treaty of Neuilly (27 November 1919)
a) 20000 volunteers, four torpedo boats, no air force
b) 2.25 billion francs
c) land to Yugoslavia, Romania and Greece
d) no new countries formed
.: paid its reparations
5. Turkey Treaty of Sèvres (10 August 1920)
a) 50000 soldiers, seven sailboats, six torpedo boats
b) no reparation fees
c) Smyrna and East Thrace to Greece, Rhodes to Italy
d) Kurdistan, Armenia, Hejaz (Arabia). Iraq and Palestine became British mandates. Syria became French mandate
.: Turkish nationalists, led by Kemel Attaturk, rebelled and rejected the treaty
